Our Top 10 Camping Spots for the Easter Long Weekend (QLD, NSW & VIC)
Easter long weekend means one thing — time to pack the 4WD, hitch up the van, and get out of the city. Whether you're chasing a hidden beach, a remote gorge or a creek-side clearing deep in the bush, we've done the research so you don't have to. Here are our top 10 camping spots across QLD, NSW and VIC this Easter.
QLD — 4 Epic Spots
Sandy Cape, K'gari (Fraser Island)
The holy grail of Queensland 4WD camping. Drive the entirety of 75 Mile Beach past the tricky Ngkala Rocks to reach Fraser's northern point — where you'll be rewarded with dolphins, rays, whales and uninterrupted views of both sunrise and sunset. Remote, spectacular and worth every kilometre of sand driving.
Access: 4WD only via 75 Mile Beach · Facilities: Basic · Book: QPWS online
Booloumba Creek, Conondale National Park
About two hours from Brisbane, Booloumba Creek Campground is surrounded by ancient forests, crystal-clear creek waters and loads of wildlife. The creek is perfect for swimming, and stunning Booloumba Falls is nearby. Feels like a hidden paradise — because it is.
Access: 4WD only · Facilities: Toilets, fire pits, picnic tables · Pets: Not allowed
Middle Rock, Deepwater National Park
Just 100 metres off an unsealed 4WD track south of Agnes Waters, Middle Rock sits alongside one of the most unspoilt beaches in Queensland — one you'll likely have entirely to yourself. Small, quiet and rarely crowded even in peak season. One of the best-kept secrets on the QLD coast.
Access: 4WD only · Facilities: None on site; toilets/cold showers nearby at Wreck Bay
Sundown National Park — QLD/NSW Border
About 250km southwest of Brisbane on the Queensland/NSW border, Sundown National Park offers campsites accessible only via 4WD tracks, with steep gorges, rivers and tracks leading to lakes and streams throughout the rugged hinterland. Not for beginners — but unforgettable for those who make it in.
Access: 4WD tracks only · Best for: Experienced campers and off-road tourers
NSW — 4 Great Finds
Woolshed Flat, Cocoparra National Park
Just 20km east of Griffith, Woolshed Flat is a bird lover's paradise with abundant hiking trails and some of the best stargazing in Australia. Getting there is easy via a few unsealed roads from town — but with only six campsites available, you need to book well ahead.
Access: Unsealed roads · Facilities: Amenities block, showers, BBQ · Book: NSW National Parks
Depot Beach, Murramarang National Park
With shady campsites among tall Spotted Gum trees right on the beach, Depot Beach is perfect for swimming, snorkelling and fishing. The kangaroos that graze through the campground are a bonus. A family favourite on the NSW South Coast — and one of the best caravan-accessible coastal camps in the state.
Access: 2WD accessible · Facilities: Full amenities · Book: NSW National Parks
Newnes Campground, Wollemi National Park
Dramatic sandstone cliffs and proud eucalypt trees make for a majestic backdrop at this beautiful, grassy, flat campground by the Wolgan River. A great base for Blue Mountains exploration and accessible enough for caravans — while still feeling genuinely remote.
Access: Suitable for caravans · Facilities: Toilets, fire pits · Book: NSW National Parks
Jacksons Crossing, Snowy River
The camping area sits on the edge of the Snowy River with a fabulous outlook across the water to a large rocky cliff. A well set-up 4WD is mandatory for the steep climbs on either side of the river. Not well known — a mid-week visit almost guarantees you'll have the place entirely to yourself.
Access: 4WD required · Facilities: Basic riverside clearing · Location: North-east of Buchan, Gippsland border area
VIC — 2 Standouts
Haunted Stream, Victorian High Country
Not for the faint-hearted. The Haunted Stream Track demands high-clearance 4WD for 40-odd river crossings across 17km of punishing off-road terrain between Dargo and Ensay in the Victorian High Country. The reward? A remote clearing that very few people ever reach. Pure, unfiltered bush camping at its best.
Access: High-clearance 4WD only · Facilities: None · Best for: Experienced 4WD tourers
Wilson's Promontory National Park
A Victorian icon. Choose the well-equipped and car-accessible Tidal River Campground for a comfortable family Easter, or hike into the secluded Sealer's Cove campsite for untouched serenity, incredible beaches and walking trails. Wilsons Prom fills up extremely fast over Easter — book the moment sites open.
Access: 2WD to Tidal River; hike-in for remote sites · Book: Parks Victoria
